The Okanagan People in the 21st Century: Tradition and Innovation

The Syilx people, also known as the Okanagans, have deep ties to their history, traditions, and to the land they have lived on for thousands of years … but in this modern age the original settlers of the Okanagan are also embracing change.

In this episode Tracey and special guest star Nathaniel Arcand visit Nk’mip Cellars, a renowned and award winning winery owned by the Osoyoos Indian Band, that represents how the Okanagan people are embracing outside influences, while still maintaining their own traditions and philosophies.

This spectacular area includes decidedly non-traditional businesses such as a championship golf course, the winery, and the Spirit Ridge Resort, but also includes the Desert Cultural Centre, where guests can explore both the natural history of this region, and the rich culture of the original people in the Okanagan Valley.
